Hi Solveigh, Great thesis topic! Social Media is influencing so many aspects of the hotel industry, especially CRM. You selected a great topic and I know there is a ton of research out there to help you. My thesis was on, “How Revenue Management Can Increase Profitability at Extended Stay Hotels.” Yawn… Best of luck to you!

Frankly, I'd pay $50 a year to be on Facebook just to not be subjected to ads. And we need a law that says no one can sell your information without your permission and which cannot be subjugated by having to accept fine print at the bottom of pages long privacy policy statements on any platform.

Good post.

Good post.

You attract new guests by leveraging the WOM of existing guests. The latest guest surveys tell us that people surf the web and social platforms (62%) to find restaurants and hotels but listen to friends and family 90% of the time about their experiences in order to make choices.

Also, relying on search to advertise to new guests is nothing more than a transactional retail strategy. The biggest lie in hospitality marketing is that you adopt retail marketing tactics to market your hospitality business. The problem is we're not retail businesses and retail strategies don't work for a 'social experience' based business.

Keep up the good work!

I couldn't agree more. I don't think the public trusts Facebook entirely but I know they don't trust companies like Unthink, yet. It will depend on whether the public embraces a new platform that plays off the fear of Facebook selling our information to the public. With the right advertising I think it might have some legs. Think about how successful insurance companies are, and tire companies, by getting the public fearful that if they don't buy their product they will surely have a house fire and end up homeless or they will crash their car because their current tires can't grip the pavement. Thanks for your insight!

There is a huge trust factor in paying for social. As it has been the great equalizer, so paying for it can become the great divider. Do you think that the public trusts that the Unthinks of the digital world are going to stay at $2? Is there soon going to be a $10, $50 service that can further drill down to not only who can see or have your information but who you interact with? LinkedIn already straddles that line so why not the facebooks and Unthinks?
